(<a href=\"#references\">2<\/a>) Mentally, we may find it harder to find the right words, pay attention, or multitask. (<a href=\"#references\">3<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Another reason healthy aging is important is that it helps protect us from disease. Aging increases our risk of diseases involving our cardiovascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal, nervous, and immune systems. (<a href=\"#references\">4<\/a>) By taking action to prevent health issues, we can age in a way that enables us to live our lives more fully.<\/p>\n<h1>5 Ways to Protect Your Health as You Age<\/h1>\n<p>Although aging is unavoidable, there are still actions you can take to grow older as healthfully as possible. They include:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>#1: Get Regular Health Screenings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The sooner a potential health issue is identified, the easier it is to treat. In an animal study published in <em>Nature Aging<\/em> on January 24, 2024, researchers revealed that they had developed a therapy capable of eliminating the cells that contribute to aging (called senescent cells).
