Prostate health is not just a problem for the elderly. Prostate problems, including frequent urination, can begin to happen in men as young as their 30s. That's why so many men experience changes in their bathroom behavior. As they get older, they will need to urinate more frequently, have a weaker urine stream and have incomplete bladder emptying. Many men will experience the need to wake up at night once, twice or more to urinate. As the symptoms worsen over time, a man's social life might be deeply impacted as he worries about his ability to control urination and the fear that he might not be able to reach a bathroom in time.
Prostate Protector Plus by Natural Wellness® was designed to help men live a fuller, more active life. It was formulated with potent ingredients to support healthy prostate and urinary tract function; ingredients with not just a history of traditional medicinal usage, but ingredients with clinical studies to support their effectiveness.
Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopheryl acetate) – We use natural Vitamin E which is about twice as strong as synthetic. Vitamin E is known for its anti-inflammatory action, as well as being a powerful antioxidant. Recent research involving 30,000 men aged 50 and up showed that an increase in Vitamin E consumption significantly improves the likelihood of maintaining a healthy prostate.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride) – Research shows Vitamin B6 protects your prostate by minimizing chromosomal breakage, which can lead to life threatening issues. This vitamin is also essential for normal brain function, helps support healthy homocysteine levels and helps the body make several neurotransmitters.
Zinc (picolinate) – This vital mineral is essential for prostate health because it supports chromosome integrity. Prostate cells accumulate more zinc than cells in any other human tissue and studies reveal that the presence of zinc in the body helps support normal cell growth, especially in the prostate. Furthermore, studies from around the world suggest a link between inadequate zinc levels and loss of sex drive, weakness and impotence.
Selenium – Selenium is one of the most researched nutrients in connection with prostate health. The results of a 2001 Stanford University study demonstrated strong evidence that:
- Selenium is essential for prostate health
- Selenium blood levels decline with age
- As you age, selenium becomes harder to absorb by your body and rapidly depleted in older individuals
Therefore, older adults usually have selenium deficiency, and this deficiency has now been shown to be associated with failing prostate health in men.
Selenium is also an important antioxidant. Your body needs it to make enzymes involved in the production of other antioxidants like glutathione. Selenium works particularly well when paired with Vitamin E, as both nutrients appear to enhance the functionality of each other, and Vitamin E has also been identified as beneficial for prostate health.
Copper – Copper has been shown to benefit prostate health and is involved in the formation of red blood cells, brain function, and hormone and antioxidant activities. Copper is also included in this formula because zinc interferes with copper absorption and may lead to copper deficiency.
Beta-Sitosterol – Beta-sitosterol has a long history of use in Europe for supporting prostate health. Beta-sitosterol appears to affect the activity of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which in turn may inhibit the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which in turn helps promote proper prostate size and urinary tract health.
Saw Palmetto – Saw Palmetto is derived from a type of red berries (Serenoa repens) that are abundant with bioactive vegetable-based compounds. Saw palmetto works by inhibiting the enzymes that transform testosterone into dihydrotesterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone which can harm the prostate. The natural molecular compounds of Saw Palmetto attach to DHT receptor sites on prostate cells, resulting in a blockage of DHT's negative functions. Published studies in Urology International show saw palmetto offers statistically significant promotion of prostate health, quality of life, sexual function and healthy residual urinary volume and prostate volume.
Pygeum Africanum – Several compounds present in pygeum africanum reduce inflammation by stopping the production of prostaglandins, which play a key role in inflammation throughout the body. These same compounds also work synergistically to reduce levels of testosterone in the prostate. There have been numerous studies which have demonstrated Pgygeum africanum to be highly effective when combined with beta-sitosterol to support healthy prostate size and to promote healthy lower urinary tract functions.
Red Raspberry – The ellagitannins found in red raspberry protect your prostate cells from harmful agents found in smoke, food additives and petroleum-based substances. They act as scavengers, searching out harmful chemicals and then bind to them, making them inactive. Ellagitannins also assist in healthy aging by inhibiting the ability of other chemicals to cause mutations to your beneficial bacteria and your DNA.
Graviola – Graviola supports normal prostate cell growth and has been shown to be effective against a number of viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
Green Tea – Green tea provides support for prostate health and normal prostate size. Green tea has also been shown in studies to regulate DHT production and hormones that influence prostate volume. The catechins found in green tea promote liver, cardiovascular, immune, brain and cellular function as well as healthy weight management. The antioxidant power of polyphenols has been shown to be 20 times more powerful than Vitamin E and 50 times more powerful than Vitamin C. In addition to its many antioxidant benefits, research has shown green tea helps inhibit fatty deposit formation in the liver and it protects cells from lipid peroxidation (oxidative damage).
Cat's Claw – Cat's claw promotes powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions. Cat's claw extract also promotes immune system health, defends against infectious invaders, protects cellular DNA against damage and supports the repair of damaged DNA.
Broccoli – Broccoli Extract acts as a vaso-dilator. It expands blood vessels in the urogenital system which promotes normal urinary and sexual function.
Stinging Nettle – In numerous studies, the root of stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) has been shown to produce favorable effects on prostate health that complement those of saw palmetto. Stinging nettle appears to modulate hormone activity in prostate tissue. It appears to help with the management of urinary tract and volume related to an aging prostate. A recent 2013 study found that stinging nettle possessed compounds that may inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a potent androgen hormone associated with problems in the prostate, poor testosterone levels and hair loss in aging men. A majority of this conversion occurs in the prostate and hair follicles. By reducing the conversion of testosterone, these areas do not suffer from the androgenizing effects that result when DHT is present.
Lycopene – Lycopene is a cartoenoid, which is an antioxidant compound that gives tomatoes and certain other fruits and vegetables their color. Studies have shown Lycopene to support a healthy prostate and to support healthy levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) which is an established indicator of prostate health.
Reishi, Maitake and Shitake Mushrooms – The active constituents in Reishi, Maitake, and Shitake include both beta-glucan polysaccharides and triterpenes. These properties have been shown to reduce inflammation and improve urinary function. These mushrooms also support immune health and normal cell growth.
Our Proprietary Blend
Quercetin Dihydrate – Quercetin is a flavonoid found in many plants and foods, most notably red grapes, red wine, apples, tea, berries, and onions. For more than a decade, quercetin has been recognized as a potent antioxidant as well as being beneficial in supporting overall prostate health.
Juniper Berry Powder – Juniper Berry is an effective antiseptic that not only promotes the flow of urine, but also treats infection of the urinary tract at the same time. Juniper increases the filtering of waste products by the kidneys, helps to expel prostate sediment and helps to prevent the crystallization of uric acid. As an herbal antiseptic and further aiding urinary and prostate health, Juniper Berry is helpful in combating bacteria, including urinary and bladder infections.
Uva Ursi Powder – Uva Ursi (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) is natural healing agent to address the issues and physical problems related to the urinary tract and bladder. Uva Ursi not only has benefits for older adults but for young children and anyone dealing with urinary problems; most common of which are urinary tract infections. First discovered in various parts of Europe thousands of years ago, many people in the United States know Uva Ursi as Bearberry. It has been used as a natural treatment in Holistic Therapy and is now becoming a part of western integrative health and it can and may be of good use to you if you are dealing with any problems related to urinary and bladder problems. Uva Ursi has been shown to tighten and strengthen urinary walls, removes harmful acidity and toxic bacteria in the urine and has even been shown to be helpful to someone experiencing painful and chronic diarrhea. Uva-ursi has anti-inflammatory, astringent, diuretic and anti-microbial activity, with special affinity for the digestive and urinary tract.
Buchu Leaf Powder – Buchu is well known for its beneficial stimulating and soothing effects on the urinary tract system of both men and women. The active ingredient, diosphenol (or barosma camphor), is said to be a potent antiseptic and diuretic, and the herb has been especially helpful in the treatment of urinary tract infections. Buchu has been said to reduce swelling of the prostate, soothe the lining membrane of the urethra and alleviate painful urination. It is also thought to help control bladder and kidney problems and the incontinence that is associated with prostate problems. Buchu is considered one of the best herbs for the prostate gland.
Glutamic Acid, L-Alanine and L-Glycene – These three amino acids support prostate health and a healthy prostate size. Amino acids are both the building blocks of proteins and participants in metabolism.
Calcium D-Glucarate – Calcium D-Glucarate is a botanical extract found in grapefruit, apples, oranges, broccoli, and brussels sprouts. It supports a detoxification mechanism in the body called glucuronidation, in which toxins and substances that can cause cell mutation are combined with water-soluble substances, thus making them more easily removed from the body. This detoxification process supports healthy prostate cells.
Pumpkin Seed Powder – Pumpkin seeds have long been valued as an important natural food for men's health. This is in part because of their high zinc content, which is important for prostate health (where it is found in the highest concentrations in the body), and also because pumpkin seed extracts may play a role in supporting a healthy prostate size. Research suggests that pumpkin seed used in combination with saw palmetto may be particularly beneficial in supporting prostate health.
Burdock Root Powder – Burdock root contains polyacetylenes, amino acids and inulin. It stimulates bile, acts as a liver cleanser and as a blood purifier. It promotes prostate and kidney function. Polyacetylenes gives the herb antibacterial and antifungal properties. Inulin is a carbohydrate that strengthens the liver. The high concentration of inulin in burdock root also aids in soothing the gastrointestinal tract.
Cayenne Pepper Powder – Cayenne pepper is actually considered a fruit more than a herb or spice, but regardless, it's very effective in supporting healthy prostate cells. Specifically, the capsaicin found in cayenne pepper has demonstrated the ability to destroy damaged and harmful prostate cells, allowing healthy cells to take their place.
Goldenseal Powder – Goldenseal has beneficial effects on uterine and prostate tissue. Goldenseal has potent antibacterial and antibiotic properties which help reduce inflammations of the prostate gland.
Gravel Root Powder – Gravel Root is believed to do exactly what its name promises! It has been utilized to flush the bladder and kidneys with increased urine flow and help to remove gravel, stones and accumulated toxins from these organs. Gravel Root is also used to relieve inflammatory urinary tract infections.
Marshmallow Root Powder – This herb, not the candy, can be used as a natural anti-inflammatory that promotes improved function of the genitor-urinary tract, which plays a key role in prostate health.
Parsley Leaf Powder – Parsley is rich in apigenin, a type of flavonoid that appears to help put mutated prostate cells into slow-growth mode in lab studies. It is also contains antioxidants and boosts the productivity of one of our liver's enzymes that detoxifies the body. Furthermore, parsley supports a healthy urinary tract and immune and cardiovascular system.
